Day 2 - Exton to Buriton

After a very early night and a slap up breakfast we waved farewell at 10am to the lovely Bucks Head in Meonstoke where we had been made to feel so welcome. A quick stop at the church and we were off on the Way again feeling a tad stiff and a bit fed up about the size of blister on my left foot.

Due to a missing sign we nearly ended up going the wrong way along the Way and heading back to Beacon Hill! Thankfully Simon's in-built compass and some handy walkers, we managed to quickly correct the blip and head in the right direction!

The signing wasn't as good as it had been and there were a few questionable parts but we managed to find our way up to the top of Winchester Hill and some spectacular views. The weather was definitely colder, there was little or no sun and lots of low lying cloud - and some wind. The views were incredible from the Iron Age Fort but we didn't hang around!

We kept the pace brisk and headed on down to the valley, stumbling across a most welcome and "convenient" fishing farm where we stopped for a refreshing cup of tea! Feeling suitably revived we headed back up hill and came across a hang gliding club where we stopped for lunch - very cold and windy so we didn't hang around!!

Despite the fact that it wasn't a particularly long or strenuous stretch, it took its toll and the walk down the approach to Queen Elizabeth Park got both our knees aching - it just never seemed to end!

We were very glad to be at the bottom and the relatively flat skirt around the park was a relief - a sign though reminded us how far we still had to go on our challenge!

Another steep downward slope at the end of the QEP took us down into our destination village of Buriton. What a beautiful quintessentially English village! Our B&B was a delight to find - Toad Hall - and its equally delightful proprietress Mrs Bushell! We were thrilled with our gorgeous room in this 15th Century cottage and settled in for a most welcome soak with fabulous views over rolling countryside.

We had an absolutely delicious meal at The Five Bells in Buriton, collected another heap of donations and then another early night beckoned! We were loving this "challenge" and especially the generosity of our donors!
